When a prospective client in the rugged mountains of Idaho said they wanted to add a spa to their already robust portfolio of properties, we nearly screamed. With joy, that is! We started our careers in hospitality, specifically spa and wellness operations, and we were thrilled to tap into our past experiences.
The overall property included a hotel, private community, championship golf course, and more, yet the portfolio was still missing something.
More so than ever, the devil was in the details with this project. It allowed us to design and build a dramatic, world-class spa in a remote town 100 miles away from a major city. We set out to incorporate the idiosyncratic beauty of the client's backyard into each and every element of the spa experience. Because in McCall, authenticity is paramount.
Natural hot springs dot the landscape of Idaho. To recreate this healing aspect of nature required intense and innovative thinking. We collaborated with our pool designers and said, “forget everything you know about traditional pools.” This needed to be completely different, and in the end, we crafted two stunning indoor-outdoor immersion pools lined with roughly 68,000 pounds of local granite boulders. The heated saltwater brings the area’s geographical riches directly to the spa and its guests.
In addition to the immersion pools, we made sure every single detail followed our brand concept for the spa which was deeply rooted in adventurous pursuits. From the interiors to the treatment names to the staff selection and training, the experience was authentically The Cove's. Upon entering the space, dozens of floor-to-ceiling regional Douglas fir logs welcome guests with an organic ambiance that occurs in harmony with the au naturel, organic products used to refresh and revive the body. There's a Wildflower Facial, a Trailblazer Massage, and a Deep Blue Body Wrap featuring blueberries with green and black tea for an antioxidant overload, among many other McCall-inspired services.
Nearly six years after we developed the concept and broke ground, The Cove, An Authentic McCall Spa at Shore Lodge is beloved by hotel guests, locals and private community members for its incredible atmosphere and treatments. In fact, it's the only spa in Idaho to receive four stars from Forbes Travel Guide.
